Platform content & coverage

The Platform includes 20 standard packaging formats and 50+ format–material combinations across Plastics, Paper & Cardboard, Metals, Glass, and Beverage Cartons. This data is supported by a wide range of information on EPR, legislation, recyclability, and more.

countries, 50 U.S. states and 13 Canadian provinces, delivered via interactive maps and country reports.

Contact your account manager to discuss adding geographies to your plan.

Yes, our coverage depends on the specificity of your question. These are common topics and we maintain extensive data in our internal database if it is not immediately available.

Food and Beverage, Cosmetics, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, and FMCG. The Platform can also be applied to adjacent industries such as e-commerce, retail, and industrial goods where similar packaging formats are used. We also work with consultancies on a case-by-case basis.

Yes, the Overview and DRS sections include key indicators such as DRS and waste generation alongside broader policy context and local considerations.

We use a recyclability maturity indicator based on local collection, sorting, and reprocessing capabilities. This is comparable across all countries and shows the real-world likelihood of recycling in each geography. The maturity indicators are: Mature, Advanced Developing, Early Developing, and Limited, allowing for a clear, comparable view across different countries and systems.

We prioritise regions most relevant to our customers. If you need a country that isn’t yet covered, tell us and we can add it on request.

The Platform includes a broad selection of packaging formats:

  • Plastics: Bottle, Tray, Tube, Pot & Cup, Film, Pouch, Other Flexibles, Other Rigids
  • Paper & Cardboard: Bottle, Box, Can, Pouch, Tray
  • Metals: Aluminium Can, Aluminium Tray, Ferrous Can
  • Glass: Bottle, Jar
  • Beverage Cartons: Small, Large

These represent the most common formats processed in collection & sorting systems. If your packaging does not match one of these categories, it is very likely being sorted into a listed stream. If you require specific details on a format that is not listed as standard, please contact your account manager. Our internal database contains information on many additional formats and can provide these upon request.

Recyclability for each packaging format is assessed using localised data on collection, sorting, and reprocessing capabilities within the target country or state. These factors are combined into a maturity indicator, which shows the real-world likelihood that the material will be recycled in that location. We combine this information with direct validation of on-the-ground recycling infrastructure. This approach enables direct, like-for-like comparisons of packaging recyclability between countries with very different waste management systems.

Yes, you can contact our team directly or via the site to make a suggestion on packaging type or country to the Platform.

The Platform is updated on a daily basis. The updates consist in the form of legislation, waste management infrastructure, map data, country reports and many more other areas of the Platform that are used by our customers. You receive information on updates via our Notification Centre.

We maintain current regulatory information through multiple sources. We work with policy officers in 52 countries who provide timely updates on legislation, compliance requirements, and enforcement trends in their regions. This is complemented by our own automated news scraping and scanning for relevant policy developments, as well as insights shared by customers operating across multiple markets.

Yes. This is made possible through the Platform’s “Access and Compare Reports” feature, which lets you select from the countries and regions in your subscription to compare any specific data point, including EPR fees, side by side. For more detailed cost analysis, our integrated add-on EPR Calculator allows you to model and compare fees for different packaging formats across markets, giving you a clear view of both recycling performance and financial impact. These tools make it easy to explore multiple comparison angles within a single platform.

Navigating the platform

To compare how different packaging formats perform across countries, go to the Map and select the “Format” filter. You can choose between a large variety of standard formats like bottles, trays, films or pouches, and specify the format to the main material used in your packaging. The map will then show how recyclable each format is in different countries using a unique color-coded system which is directly comparable across every country, state, and province that we cover.

Select the “EPR and packaging policies” filter to see a live map of the status of Extended Producer Responsibility across more than 140 geographies, including each US state. We also provide advanced filters which display local eco-modulation implementation, the status of packaging regulations, collection systems, PPWR applicability, and labelling requirements. This helps you identify where policies are well established and where gaps may still exist.

The Reports section allows you to dive deeper and includes detailed information for each country on legislation, the performance of local recycling systems, EPR and legislation, and infrastructure and recycling results. It covers local collection requirements, and sorting and reprocessing behaviour for all major material categories.

This section breaks down how producer responsibility fees are calculated, provides up to date fee tables, which formats or materials are affected, and whether there are any bonuses or penalties based on eco-design. It also highlights if plastic taxes apply to you.

The Sorting section shows how waste is processed once it’s collected, whether formally or informally. It explains the sorting technology in use, how effective it is for different materials and whether specific packaging types are commonly sorted for recycling. This section covers Glass, Metals, Paper & Cardboard, Plastics, and Beverage Cartons (LCB).

The Recycling Results section reports on publicly available recycling rates. Many countries provide figures supported by opaque methodologies, which we describe in order to clear up confusion. This is supplemented by our advanced recycling dataset, which is the most comprehensive available on the market. You’ll find country-level recycling outcomes, including performance data for specific materials and packaging types.

In order to be able to guarantee the recency of our data, we do not auto-enable the ability to export data from our platform. This can be made possible in consultation with our team.

Start with the Map to get a visual overview of differences across countries. Then use the Reports section to dig into the numbers and use our comparison tool for side-by-side comparisons.

Use the material stream filter in the Map to focus on categories like plastic, paper, metal, glass or beverage cartons. This gives you a more generalized view of the material flows which are directly targeted by recyclers around the world: the higher the likelihood of being able to extract value out of the material, the more likely it is well managed.

The Map view gives you a quick overview of country-level performance for recycling systems, including collection, sorting, and reprocessing infrastructure and EPR policies. It’s ideal for storytelling, spotting patterns, comparing regions and jumping directly into country-level reports. Each country or state/province contains its own specific data points, visible by hovering over it. We maintain more than 120,000 datapoints on our map, ensuring that you always have accurate information when you need it.

The Overview gives a snapshot of how packaging is managed in that country. It includes key indicators for recycling rates, DRS, waste generation, and more. It highlights relevant legislation for packaging and recycling, how EPR works and its application by PROs, and how the overall waste system is structured.

Here you’ll find an explanation of the local collection system, such as what bins are used, their color, how households participate, and how well the system supports recycling for different materials. You will also find go/no-go lists for the materials which are accepted in local collection systems. In the case of countries managed by informal systems, a targeted overview is provided.

The Reprocessing section shows how waste is processed once it’s collected and sorted, whether formally or informally. It explains the reprocessing technology in use, how effective it is for different materials and whether specific packaging types are commonly recycled. This section covers Glass, Metals, Paper & Cardboard, Plastics, and Beverage Cartons (LCB).

Use the Map to target specific material categories, and our search or filter tools inside the Reports section to target a specific format or material. The system will update to show only relevant country data, making it easier to focus on what matters most to you.
