19/03/2026 - Conai Forecasts 75% Packaging Recycling Rate Amidst New EU Regulatory Framework
The Italian national packaging consortium, Conai, has projected a recycling rate of approximately 75% for 2026, representing nearly 11 million tonnes of material. While waste separation volumes continue to rise, the anticipated rate shows a slight decrease from the 76.7% recorded in 2024, attributed to fluctuating market demand for recycled paper and volatile virgin plastic prices linked to geopolitical tensions. The sector is currently transitioning to the EU PPWR, which expands the definition of packaging to include items such as coffee capsules and tea bags.
